- See the official site of the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (www.sbcpmg.org.br) and make sure that the plastic surgeon is listed among its members by category.

- This check is very important as it ensures the validity and reliability of the plastic surgeon; the only type of doctor properly prepared and qualified to perform plastic surgery.

- Note: What is called aesthetic medicine is not a medical specialty recognized by the MEC, much less by the Federal Council of Medicine (CFM).

- See what is the doctor's experience, for example how many years of school, what is his extent of training, and see if he has attended and worked in major national or international medical centers and hospitals.

- See if he attends conferences, lectures and presentations of scientific work promoted by the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery (BSPS).

- Make sure that the surgeon is certified in good hospitals within the city, even if he has his own clinic and surgical center.

- Always choose to perform your surgery at the hospital. If the unexpected happens, it is always safer to deal with problems in a hospital. Also, consider that a good surgeon must:

- Ask about your expectations with plastic surgery

- Give advice on which procedure is best suited for your needs

- Provide information about the surgical procedure such as: level of complexity, type of anesthesia, hospitalization, home life, restrictions, and daily and long-term care

- Make clear the risks that are involved

- Make the final decision together with you

- Request all preoperative tests and surgical risks

- Take pictures of the body region that will be addressed in surgery
